Rihanna’s latest single “Rude Boy” proved once again that she is a hitmaking artist. The song is already #1 in USA and it’s taking over most of the international charts! She is now the 1st female artist to have six number 1 songs since 2000. And she’s doing quite well in the long run as well! Comparing to other female singers she’s now tying with Diana Ross and Paula Abdul who have also reached Billboard’s top position six times.
The record belongs to Mariah Carey, who has 18 singles that made to the top of Hot 100 list. Next is Madonna (12), Whitney Houston (11) and Janet Jackson (10).
Ironically, a spotlight on the most frequent female visitors to the Hot 100’s top spot leads to a look at all the boys who’ve reached No. 1. More specifically, songs featuring “boy” in their titles.
“Rude Boy” is the 11th such song to top the Hot 100, at least one of which has led the chart in each decade since its 1958 inception. Rihanna’s gender, however, maintains a comfortable lead in No. 1 representation. 21 songs sporting “girl” in their titles have led the Hot 100.
